Come On Up To The House

Granola Bars

These are the very best. I used to be an event planner and we would have events at the Monona Terrace. I asked the catering for the recipe (more like begged them) and here it is. I have made this so many times and still love it.

Ingredients
3 cups Rice Krispie cereal
2 1/2 cups Old Fashioned oatmeal
1/4 cup golden raisins (sub dried cranberries, cherries, blueberries, apricots etc.)
1/3 cup pecan pieces (sub hazelnuts, walnuts, chopped almonds or pistachios)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
3/4 cup peanut butter
1/2 tbsp vanilla

Lightly grease a 13″x9″ cake pan.

Mix first 4 ingredients in a large bowl.

In a sauce pan, bring the brown sugar and corn syrup to a boil. Remove pan from the heat and stir in the peanut butter and vanilla. Pour this mixture over the dry mix in the large bowl. Stir well to combine and pat into prepared pan. Press with a plastic spatula, plastic wrap or wet hands to keep them from sticking. Let cool at room temperature and cut into bars. Keep them well covered but do not refrigerate.
